For the first time, two young women asked BWEF to finance their studies at a Virtual University in Ouagadougou which was created in 2018.
Both girls inscribed in September 2024 and started virtual classes in October 2024. BWEF visited each student at home and also checked out the headquarters of the Virtual University of Burkina Faso.
BWEF was able to give both girls used laptops. They seemed ready for the challenge. Sakinatu is studying biology with an interest in hygiene and food security. Marina is majoring in economics.

At the beginning of each school year, BWEF invites the new candidates to the BWEF office in Ouagadougou for an orientation program. It has two parts: health education and computer training.

BWEF financed Haoua's Master's degree from 2013 to 2015. Haoua now works as an accountant, but studied development projects. Haoua recently started her own NGO to give aid to the impoverished, mostly funded out of her own pocket. Haoua's first distribution took place yesterday.

BWEF Geneva held its annual meeting on 29 May 2024. Nicole Hochschild, a founding board member and secretary of BWEF Geneva since 2018, was appointed as the new president. A new member, Norm McIntosh, was unanimously approved by the BWEF Geneva board. He will take over the treasurer position from Liling Low and webmaster from Jo Maxwell Scott.

The Hirschmann Foundation has awarded us a second grant of 7,000 CHF to cover the costs of five girls to finish their studies by 2026. In all, the Foundation has supported the complete education for ten girls.
Bernadette was supported by the Hirschmann Foundation in 2023 and again for her final year in 2024-25. She wants to become a French teacher.
